You
were meant to wake him, a voice
whispered in her head. This time it was more distinct and she understood that it
wasn’t her conscience but the whisper of fate. You’re
life has been lived for this moment. Your female body is the key. That is why
the others before you failed.
Lucienne knew
what she had to do. The others before her had been men. According to her
grandfather’s journal, a man had cursed all the djinn
because one of them refused to enslave all women, including the
djinni’s lover. A man’s jealousy and hate had
started the djinn imprisonment. It stood to reason
that a woman’s passion and love would free them of it.
Each
movement sent a jolt through her. The breeze hit again, this time stronger. Her
body was being prepared. It was like a thousand fingers touched her. As she
stepped into the chamber at the end of the hall, it was like entering a dream—a
place where all her fantasies, all her desires could come true. It was a strange
understanding that passed over her, an acceptance.
Destiny.
Fate.
For a
moment, she panicked, scared that the chamber would be empty. And then she saw
him, the man of both her destiny and fate. All fear and worry left her. It was
the man she’d searched for.
Her
djinni.
The man who
would be able to sate the burning hunger inside her body.
He looked
just as a man of such grace and power should look—beautiful, strong and virile.
Orange firelight caressed his naked form, the light flickering over his gorgeous
body and tight flesh. Long, blue-black hair fell over his back. He was turned
from her, affording her a lush view of a taut ass and muscled thighs. Not a
measure of fat marred his frame and for a moment she thought him too perfect to
be real.
Lucienne quickly
glanced around his prison. It was made of stone, but covered with red and white
gauze. There was a basin of water, set high on a pillar. A thick cushioned chair
was next to the bed. In the middle of the room was a low, flat bed, covered with
fine silks and surrounded by translucent material hanging from the ceiling. She
shivered to see it, longing to touch the soft material, to feel it caressing her
naked body.
Books were
piled high on a table. They were bound with leather and she wondered if he’d
used his magic to keep up with the outside world. It was said
djinn knew many things, spoke all languages and
could control the elements.
His head
turned to the side and she got the briefest glance of his face. When he spoke,
his voice was dark, low, predatory and powerful all at the same time. To hear
it, she knew she’d found the right man. “Lucienne de
la Rue. You have come to free me from this prison?”
“Yes,”
Lucienne whispered. Her own voice was husky with her
passion.
“You come to
me willingly?” he asked.
“Yes.”
“You know
that to free me from this prison, you must offer me your body to use as I will?”
he insisted. Suddenly, his eyes lifted and he turned to look at her without
really moving his feet. His hips angled and by the way his arm fell at his side.
He had chiseled, hard features. His dark gaze swept
over her form and she felt naked with only the thin linen of the ancient gown
between them. “You must prove to me that you are worthy of freeing me.”
Not as
confident as before, she whispered, “Yes.”
